A Facebook App for Beautiful Faces

The search for the new Miss Sunshimmer

When Bauer Media put together a Brand Campaign for Rimmel London, they decided to search for the next Miss Sunshimmer model using a Facebook app, and engaged Monogram Digital to help with the digital design and build aspects of the project.

The competition was to run in two phases: First, entrants were to upload their photographs into a moderated gallery. Second, a selection of entrants chosen by a judging panel would be posted on the app with the winner chosen by public vote.

We first put together a series of designs which took into account Rimmel's Sunshimmer branding, user experience and Facebook guidelines. We were pleased that Bauer Media and Rimmel loved what we produced, so we proceeded to the build phase.

The campaign began to pick up traction even whilst we were building and it was clear that this was going to attract a lot of attention. We employed a number of technologies and techniques to ensure the build was a robust as possible – we designed and tested the application to support thousands of users at a time. As with all our builds, we kept everything super secure and made sure that it worked across as many devices and browsers as possible.

The campaign attracted over a thousand Likes a day on Facebook, exceeding targets and pushing the reach of the brand, product and competition far and wide. From the hundreds of published entries in the Miss Sunshimmer gallery one lucky winner was crowned and became the face of a nation wide campaign. A truly modern twist on an old format, with great results!
